Pompeii, like Ostia Antica, is an ancient ruined city stuck in time. Mt. Vesuvius erupted thousands of years ago and covered the city. Unlike Ostia Antica, Pompeii is filled with hundreds of tourists, and I am still surprised that I got enough time to actually take this picture inside one of the buildings.
I like this photograph because, save the stupid ropes and poles, the beautiful beam of light coming through the ceiling on to the wall paints for me a picture of what this place must have been like before Vesuvius erupted. The room must have been much more colorful. Can’t you see yourself bathing in that bowl?
