Where David Gazes

Carnivale was in the air all around Italy, and I couldn’t have been more excited. I had just come from a celebration in the beach town of Viareggio and I was back in Florence. The little kids in Viareggio were all dressed up (as well as many of the adults), yet this kid in the big city was the only one that I can remember.

Walking up to the Piazza de Michelangelo, the large slanting steps brought this view of the city. Beyond the shade offered by the trees and the crawling vines, we could see the duomo. The dark green foreground contrasts nicely with the classic red of the city below. At the top, I took this picture of David as the sun began to descend over the city.
