Birds and Monkeys of Lake Manyara

by hopesfrenzy

Our adventure began quietly at Lake Manyara. There were thousands of cranes outside the park – literally so many that the entire forest of trees was white from their perched bodies and excrement. It was loud, and spectacular.

Inside the park, our first encounters were with monkeys — a lone Blue monkey and then a family of Olive baboons. Since this was the first baboons we saw, I took a few (i.e. a lot!) pictures.

At a watering hole – not actually the lake of Lake Manyara – many animals could be seen in the distance, but the focus for us were the cranes, herons, eagles and – warthogs! The sheer number of birds was amazing. It was a beautiful day for a safari.

That last monkey is a Vervet monkey, playing around at sunset.
