On our last full day in southern California and after we drove back from Borrego Springs, we drove out to Cabrillo National Monument and Point Loma in San Diego. It felt like a completely different place, shrouded in mist and clouds. The change was stark from the sunny city center.
We entered the monument at just the right time to explore the Point Loma Tide Pools, so we drove down and hiked around along the crags of rock, spotting sea urchins, starfish, crabs, and more. As well as stupid tourists falling into the water or getting hit with waves! I was really struck with how the sand dunes looked, with the stratification. Almost like the Borrego Badlands from the night before!
Later, we found a set of brown pelicans on the pier back in San Diego while we looked for a restaurant.
