The one and only day I have ever skipped class in my entire life was in Rome, on a particularly beautiful day. I took a tour of the Colosseum as well as Palatine Hill, where I had not yet ventured. The tours amazed me – to be walking the same stones as the Roman nobles and politicians. I loved running around, taking pictures, exploring every nook and cranny, and attempting to imagine what life must have been like thousands of years ago.
First: the Colosseum. Obviously, it’s one of the most photographed landmarks in the world, and one of the most recognizable. I took this photo from the top of Palatine Hill.
In my explorations I found an artifact closet behind these bars and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Priceless objects, strewn about. This closet full of pieces of pots or pieces of pillars and walls and all kinds of things was completely disregarded. Dusty and dirty and unkempt. Seems like they are overwhelmed with pieces to study.
