Sex Ed in Swahili

by hopesfrenzy

As part of our work in Arusha, we were brought to a reproductive education class at a local school where we sat in on a class on early pregnancy (and how to avoid it) taught in Swahili. I picked up bits and pieces of the lesson, especially as the instructor put English words on the board.

It was a very intense topic. While there were some giggles, mostly the youth were asking questions while the instructor listed the causes of early pregnancy: poverty, distance from home to school, peer groups, rape.

This experience was a privilege to witness.
