The Lake of Fairy Tales

We landed in Slovenia early in the morning (after a much smoother experience in Schiphol than our last flight to Vienna). We got our car and immediately headed north, away from Ljubljana where we would be staying, to the magical Lake Bled. It was a brilliant, warm day. We walked a bit around the lake, got a coffee, and then took a traditional Pletna boat out to the island that holds the picturesque Cerkev Marijinega Vnebovzetja or Assumption of Maria Church.

After that, we drove up the cliffs of Bled to the castle that overlooks the lake. The castle was relatively small, but had some stunning views and interesting nooks and crannies.

It was a perfect start to this much-needed vacation!
