Corners of a Northern City

by hopesfrenzy

We spent a weekend in Groningen to celebrate our first anniversary, and it was such a fun trip. I had always heard that Groningen, the northern most city (and province) of the Netherlands was pretty and vibrant, but I just didn’t realize how pretty it was! We had a great Airbnb close to the train station from which we could explore.

Groningen has similar architecture as most Dutch cities, but there were so many cute or unique corners that we discovered as we explored and saw the sights. We started off with a visit to the Groninger Museum, which featured Groningen painters, and then the Prinsentuin.

Even the modern Forum building was quite cool (not to be confused with the actual forum) with great views of the city and a spectacular inner systems of escalators that provided a contrast between the modern metal and the brick churches and state buildings outside. The colors of Groningen were also unique, with yellow brick roads and brightly painted gables, doors and frames.
